Younger Children
Each merit Home Ed Child should have a white / black board which they can write on at any time. This board lists the students favourite things they would like to learn more about. The HE provider chooses a subject from this list for the child to learn about. Older children Older children should be allowed free choice of subject. This is due to added resposibility given to the students as well as the ability to find information for themselves. |
At the start (may add midway as well) the child should be presented with a box of different materials for them to use as they want to. These may include alongside their project book or folder, for them to fill in and create through their project journey.

How to start each project lesson?Choose something to jump start the project. It can be a video or reading from a book or a role play or an overiding question or both.
Choose something to excite the student to progress with their work or support them in an area which they are struggling. This only needs to last a few minutes. Its a daily introduction. Or you could present some questions to have them find out answers too. |
When you think the project should come to an end give the student/s a weeks warning. This will allow them to tie up the project. The very last day of the project, each student should do a short presentation to the family / co op / friends about what they have learnt. The feedback should be mainly positive with a few supportive critical comments on things the student needs to work on for future. Celebrate achievements, each child should nearly always have something to celebrate at the end of the project, it improves their self esteem and their desire to learn more.
